This content pack adds the Byzantine Emperor Basil II and the Gaulish leader Ambiorix to the game. In order to subjugate enemies, the Byzantine Empire relies on religious and military power, in particular, on unique units - dromon and tagmu. The Gauls, in turn, are flexible in battle, and they are helped by a unique oppid area - the main support of culture and production. The set also includes a new mode "Tragic Ages", a new type of map and two new wonders of the world.

The structure includes the Byzantine Empire led by Basil II, unique units - dromon and tagma, as well as a unique area - the hippodrome.

Civilization Unique Ability: The Taxis ability increases the combat or religious power of units for each holy city converted to the Byzantine religion. Byzantine religion spreads when defeating enemy units. Cities with sacred sites receive additional Great Prophet Points.
Leader Unique Ability: Porphyrogenitus allows heavy and light cavalry to deal full damage to cities of the same religion as Byzantium. Upon opening the Divine Right social institution, Vasily receives a unique unit - tagma.
Unique Unit: The Byzantine Empire has two unique units available. Dromon replaces the quadrireme, has an increased radius of action, and gains additional combat power in battle. Tagma replaces knights and gives nearby ground units additional combat or religious power.
Unique area: the hippodrome replaces the entertainment complex. However, it is cheaper and brings additional contentment points. When constructing a hippodrome and related buildings, Byzantium receives a heavy cavalry unit.
It also includes the Gallic civilization, led by Ambiorix. Gallam has a unique unit - gesaty and a unique area - oppid.

Civilization Unique Ability: The Hallstatt Culture ability gives mines a minor bonus for being adjacent to any districts, allows for cultural capture of non-player tiles, and also grants additional culture points. Specialized Areas cannot be built near city centers. However, they do not receive bonuses from the neighborhood with other areas.
Leader Unique Ability: The Eburon King ability will allow the Ambiorix civilization to gain culture points based on the unit´s cost when training non-civilian units. Melee, anti-cavalry units, and ranged units gain additional combat power for being adjacent to military units.
Unique unit: hesats replace warriors. Gesat training is more expensive, but when confronted with stronger units and district defenses, they gain additional combat power.
Unique Area: An alternative to an industrial area, costs less and opens earlier. Unlocks Discipleship technology upon construction. Oppid is protected, can shoot back from attackers and receives a large bonus for being close to quarries and strategic resources.
